Meet Violet!
Violet was born in February of 2022 with a range of congenital anomalies including bilateral choanal atresia (closed nasal passage), microtia/atresia (absence of ear canals with ear malformations), micrognathia (recessed jaw), and Diamond Blackfan Anemia (inability to produce red blood cells). She lives with a tracheostomy tube for breathing, a Gtube for eating, soon to be bone conduction aids for hearing, and receives chronic blood transfusions every 3-4 weeks to refill her body’s supply of red blood cells. She is a miracle to say the least!
Who could have guessed that such a little person could make such a big impact?
In the early months of Violet’s life, we wondered how the struggles that she faces could be turned on its head into a force for good. As a community of caring individuals rallied around her from afar, what was once a spark began to form into a passion for both bringing the community together and giving back. If anything can be learned from watching children fight medical complexities, it’s that people want to help but often don’t know how. It was out of this realization and the experiences we have gained through raising this medically complex cutie that we decided to make a place for help to call home. That home is the Ultra Violet Blood Drive.
More than Just a Blood Drive
Ultra Violet Blood Drive is more than just a Big Red Bus in a parking lot. It’s a whole family friendly event! Simply being present and having a good time gives back to both our community and the people who need life saving medical intervention. Interested in playing your odds in one of our many raffles? Have children who are excited to engage in the kidzone? All proceeds from kidzone bracelets and raffle ticket sales go directly to the Diamond Blackfan Anemia Foundation to aid in further research of this disease. Even if those activities don’t interest you, support local small businesses by exploring our pop up vendors, network with community sponsors, or simply enjoy music on the lawn! It’s a win win for all! So, come on out, have fun, engage with your community, and make a positive impact!
